Halcyon Days

Halcyon Days have come to mean any time of happiness and contentment, but their true meaning is a Greek legend. Alcyone, the daughter of the ruler of the winds, threw herself into the sea to join her husband who had tragically drowned. The gods took pity on the pair, transforming them into Halcyons, or Kingfishers, with the power to calm storms and tame raging seas. Sailors still credit these beautiful birds with this magical power.
